The Civil War

Some people state that Abraham Lincoln, as the president of the nation, should have impeded a conflict and looked for other ways of conciliation. Likewise, it is claimed that slavery would have eventually ended and that, for this reason, a four-year war was unnecessary. On the other hand, others agree on the fact that war was inevitable since it was the only way to liberate slaves and reach equality. What is your opinion? Did he make the right decision? Do you think that if civil war had not taken place, slavery would not have disappeared?

  1. In my opinion, I believe that the Civil War was a violent and bloody act where a lot of people and soldiers were killed. The president Abraham Lincoln before the Civil War he tried to do a resolution between South states and North states to make an agreement without violence, but this agreement was not reached and he didn’t have other system.

So, I think he took the right decision because sometimes is necessary that one or a group of people put a stop to unacceptable situations, situations that go against the human rights, and indeed the slavery was a way of tightness which had to be stopped. They didn’t have to let the time keep moving because if this had happened the slavery not only had been in the southern part but consequently it had spread throughout all the country, in my opinion Civil War was the better option at the time.

Sometimes wars serve to begin or to finish with something, but in this case Civil War was a great help because with the victory Abraham Lincoln and his troop achieved that the slavery was abolished in the South.

  2. In my opinion, the Civil War was a way that slaves had to show their disagreement about the freedom that they did not have.
Many people agreed with them and fought but they did because they did not want to lose their jobs, in other words, they did it because of the economy. Many slaves traveled to free states to become free but when they came back, they were slaves again, so it's true that the president Lincoln could find another way of conciliation but the states (The North and The South) were in a huge disagreement, while The North wanted to abolish the slavery, The South wanted to keep the slavery. This war was necessary, even though, the civil war lasted four year but if it had not taken place, slavery would not have disappeared.
So, I think that the President Lincoln took the right decision because we all born equal, because we all born with the same rights and because everybody deserve freedom.

  3. All of us know that the civil war is the bloodiest war that America has lived. That made me think that it’s true, President Lincoln could have find another way to stop the bleeding but then I realize something: there wasn’t another way.
The Confederate States were a new country that wanted to keep their slaves. And the Union wanted to be a free land for everyone. They could’ve got into an agreement, but none of them wanted to change their point of view.
Some people think that if the Union bought the slaves, there was no war. But the Union didn’t have enough money to buy them all. For me, that could’ve been the smartest way to avoid the war but it didn’t happen for the previous facts shown.
At the end the war was inevitable, two different countries fought for what they thought was right, but slavery wasn’t something that had to continue. They were making that their own people felt lest than other, just for their skin color. I think that the civil war was something that had to happen for the good of a new nation that now is called United States of America.

  4. I think Abraham Lincoln could have had another option. I consider at first Lincoln should have talked in a formal and respectful way with the other representatives of south states in order to avoid the civil war. I consider it was a very extreme decision about fighting between people in the same nation; The civil war was a terrible and very bloody fight; the objective of the war was very assertive because the slavery was a very humiliating and inhuman situation where a person in owner of another one, asking them with force to do the things .The slaves didn’t have a normal life because they were physically and psychologically mistreated in order to support personal interests of the farmers owners. For example in the South there were the cotton farms and the owners needed people who served in a cheap way and in the best cases without the need to pay the job for that reason at first the blacks didn’t have family and obviously they were not happy.I believe that the civil war could have been best thought, may be establishing a new law in order to give a better situation to slaves or making a negotiation about the job with the objective that slaves should have the same civil rights than the other american people without violence. I think that if this solution had been chosen, it hadn’t had the need to stay in war between brothers for 4 years with the high levels of indiscriminated deaths.

  5. I am not in agreement as the only people they cannot settle their disagreements with physical attacks. I think that there should have been a dialog or an agreement between the peoples of the north and the south. The Church was to have played an important role in awareness that both blacks and whites should have the same rights, however, until today exit the Ku Klux Klan, whose members believe that God supports their movements.

    2. I read in articles that in 19th century when the Civil War started, Slavery made those religions Methodists, Baptists and Presbyterians were separated for the acts of aggression against slaves, acts like whipping, mutilation, etc. for this reason the Presbyterian Church were separated in two churches, one in the north and the other one in the south; the north was capitalism and the South was Communism.

  6. People can say that the civil war was an unnecessary event. They do not think that in that time it seemed the only solution. Slaves were considered less than animals. They were fed up with their lives and could not decide what they wanted or raise a family. Abraham Lincoln was conscious about this situation. He was under pressure because all the people who trusted in him. He had to do something that gives hope to his people; therefore he led the civil war. Black and white people fought to reach a common purpose for the first time, a better place to live where everybody could be free.
This war lasted four years because rich southerners did not want that their workers could be free. If they had understood that slavery was not a style of life, the civil war would have never happened and many people would have lived their lives peacefully.
I think that if the civil war had not taken place, slavery would have lasted a lot of time. The civil war meant a little spark that made everything change. After it, slaves of other countries believed that freedom was possible if they worked together.

  7. As we know Abraham Lincoln was an abolitionist and one of his proposal for his government term was avoid the slavery so it helped that slavery did not spread and disappeared. The Civil War at the beginning could be resolve through the dialogue but the end of the slavery meant no workers in cotton farm and loss of money so the Confederency did not want that it disappear. So the Civil War start because of enocomic reasons.

I think that this war has its disadvantage because it was the bloodiest one, USA wasdivided in 2: The Union and The Confederency, it destroy the lands that produce money so then existed a crisis. On the other hand one of the advantages is that Abraham Lincoln create the 13 amedment that give African American equal rights but they were segregated and finally the reconstruction.

In conclusion I think that the slavery would have disappeared.

  8. First of all slavery would have dissapeared anyways, the fact is the measures that the president or even the people took. I think that the war would have taken place at some point what means that it was inevitable but it might have been less bloody.
The president could eliminate slavery through the dialoge or laws but as economy was in a critical point and there was a fight between the both sides (north and south) trying to win economic power and if the president was going to take their workforce (slaves) there was going to be a negative response and therefore a war.
So, the main point is the fact that the war was going to take place and anybody could avoid it.

  9. In my opinion, the civil war could have avoided, as the president Abraham Lincoln had the decitions in his hands, he could think about the consequence and find a better solution.

But, a point that is more important was many citizens had already taken this decistion, and the union of all them was higher than the president Lincoln.

However, It took place like one of the most important events in the American History and the world, somo people fought for freedom, other for abolish the slavery, and finally one way or another it teach us to be a better citizens respecting the humam rights.

  10. Slavery is a cruel act that men put into other men for being of a different skin color. In my opinion, slavery had to end one day just like happened in Great Britain years before USA and the civil war was the opportunity to change this and express the brutality that generations passed trough.
At the beginning of slavery, people didn’t rebel because they were afraid but after they started a family, they got a little chance of hope and that’s why in the 1850’s all happened.
If the 13rd Amendment hadn’t been approved, I think that after several years, a new pronunciation against slavery had to appear. Maybe it had to take longer or maybe not, but at the end United States had to become a free land, with free labor for everyone, as Abraham Lincoln wanted.

  11. I think that hard strategies are necessary to reach something that you want, specially if you do not have control of it, and slavery was something without control until Abraham Lincoln became president.
Slavery was something that became an habit, specially in the South of the United States. When something becomes an habit is difficult to remove it. People become accustomed to it.
Obviously people did not want to leave what had been theirs for so many years; when something is of your property, you do not want to lose it; and that's what black people were, a "property".
But everything in life tires, specially if you are a human being with feeling and rights, rights that black people didn't have. It was necessary for them to protest against the cruelty they lived, and if war was the result of their freedom, that war is justified.

  12. Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer. He is renowned for the way to reach people in their speeches. In my opinion reading the Abraham Lincoln life. I'm sure that he did his best to reach an agreement, because most of his speeches have been focused in the true life that a person needs and that a slave had not, but he knew that the most of white people were disagreeing. It means that he appreciate the life, and he didn’t want to lose the people life to get an agreement. I think as a last option Abraham Lincoln decided to start the war. For me it was the right decision, because if He did not start the civil war, now not only speak of human losses, because it could have ended in the worst way. To remove the racism in American people it took many years. If the Civil War didn’t exist, the country could not have been the economic and the social growth as it has now.

  13. In my opinion this is one if the most interesting events in the american history, because it is a fight against one of the worst things that could happen in this world that is slavery, the most interesting is that a president took place in this war, the slavery is not something good so for that I think that they fought for a good reason, the war was the last option that Abraham Lincoln had in mind but at the end, he didn´t has another option, because he tried with speeches but it didn´t affect to the slavery, it took many years until the slaves were free.

  14. In my opinion, I think that the civil war was an inevitable struggle which became a historic event, because it was a bloody rebellion between two forces the North states vs. The Southern states.
The president Abraham Lincoln was one of the great figures in American history and I’m sure that he took the best decision in order to finish with the slavery .. Maybe that war might have been less violent but it doesn't mean that the war had to be unnecessary.
In that case! The dialoge wasn't enough to stop a situations that marked the lives of many slaves and the slavery would have continued…

  15. I think that the war was inevitable because someone in any time had to stop all the injustices that happened with black people. Some times people have to live something that made them react in front of any situation. Also I think that Abraham Lincoln not only started a war but made the most important amendment where every citizen of the United States are protected. The civil war was just one step to show the world that everyone have the same rigths regardless the color or sex.

  16. In my opinion The Civil War, which was the bloodiest war in the story of America, lasted four years and was like a way to express the disagreement that people who were slaves felt. Some of them moved to states where the slavery was not permitted. So, they could live in a peaceful way without belonging to anybody. In the North also called Union States wanted to abolish the slavery. But the South, Confederate States, wanted to keep it.
Abraham Lincoln was an important character of this event. He was against the slavery and wanted to stop the violence between two parts that belonged to the same country. So, he created an Emancipation Proclamation which was a controversial. Because all slaves who were rebelling against the Union were free. As a result slaves were free. But something new came up that was called reconstruction.

  17. Civil war took place with the purpose of abolish slavery an act of sheer cruelty like slavery, the fact of denigrate a person just for the color of his skin was something that at some point should stop, people cannot control others, because we are humans and one thing that make us humas is freedom.
In my opinion, Lincoln's decision was the best, Civil war could not be avoided, because it was the only option for blacks to reach their freedom, Also this war indirectly enriched the history of the new state that was forming.
If the war would be avoided, slavery could also have dissapeared many years later, but this give us the conclusion that some lifes could be saved but it only prolong the suffering of more blacks families

  18. In my opinion, The Civil war was an act very violent and bloody, but this act was a way that slaves should do to respect your rights. I think that Abraham Lincoln did make the right, because He wanted to get an agreement to abolish slavery, and It would do to respect the rights of everyone regardless if you are colored or not. But The States North and South were never agree anything.
So, I think the decision was the right, because everybody have rights to be free and not be discriminated against by others. I think that all this had to happen because it was the only way to reach the slaves be heard, if they do not recleman as they know if it affects them or not.

  19. I think that the Civil War was completely a bloody massacre where millions of people died. I don't really imagine a better way of defeating slavery than the civil war, eventhough war is not always the solution, we can say that in this case it was necessary, because without fighting for this, slavey could have continued, and not only in the southern states but it could have spread all over the country, and what's even worst. All over America.
Slaves were treated as things at that time, they were hurt and sometimes even killed by their owners, they were taken away from their families to be sold, and I really think without a war this wouldn't have stopped at least in a few years more. I don't think that slavery would have continued until this century, so with war or without it slavery would have come to an end sooner or later, but in this case, As I already said, war was necessary, and it's true it divided the country into The Union and The confederate, but the good and more important part about this is that The Union avoided slavery all over the country and slaves were already free for good.

  20. In my opinion, The Civil War was very cruel because it died a lot of soldiers and innocent people , but was the best option of end the slavery, because before the civil war Abraham Lincoln tried to do agreement without violence with the south states ,but this was disproved , because the slavery was the base of economy of this states and if the slavery ends there were not people to do the job that they do not want to do.
Abraham lincoln was disagree that many americans were slaves of other americans , Lincoln want the same right of all people of his nation, and to get the liberty of all this nation , he do not have option . he have to start a war
