Safety Procedures at Work

Hi there!

In this unit we have studied many aspects of safety, such as new vocabulary about safety hazards and language structures to express necessity and prohibition. There is a situation I want you to read and analyze:

Mario works in a factory. He’s worked there for a few months. The factory has a good safety-training program. Every employee is required to take a class and learn about keeping the workplace safe. Mario’s coworkers follow the safety rules, but Mario has noticed one unsafe practice at his workplace. Some of the emergency exits are locked, even though a big sign on the door says, “This door must be unlocked at all times during work hours.” Mario thinks that the emergency exits should be unlocked, but he doesn’t know what to do.

Write Mario a short letter. Tell him what you think he should do. Explain.

  1. well, i think mario should tell his partners to report it to an authority so they open it because in a emergency case they could get injured or maybe even die.
He shouldn't be shy and to face the situation.

  5. Dear, Mario
I'm agree with your point of view, I really think that you must tell it to your boss, because if someone have a real emergency during work hours and can't run away from the building will get trapped and the probabilities of be alive will be least, so I encourage you to talk with your boss about your thoughts.

  6. Mario, you should talk to your boss, or the people who are in charged of security, you may suggest them that if it is not sure having the emergency exit unlocked they may put guards in there to prevent that this exit could be used to bad purposes.
I hope you choose the best option, take care.

  7. Hi Mario
This is my point of view you should tell your boss that must be open EMERGENCY EXITS doors as they may have a serious emergency and you should use them to communicate to your boss so that he too is well informed of your problem.

  8. I think that you have to talk with your boss about this problem, the emergency exits should not have been locked at all times, emergency doors have to reinstall for only be opened from the inside and for security if someone is trying to to do the opposite, sounding an alarm.

  9. I think the doors should never be blocked or closed as in an emergency so you can threaten to lose their life because with an emergency door one would know where to go and at that time there must have surprise that this closed so that you should never close the emergency doors let alone block them

  11. Hello, Mario
I think that your problem is something very common in some companies.
You should have to talked with your boss and you should have to told about the problem,
it is very important because if their have a accident or other thing is neccesary that this door are unblocked. It is for their security and welfare, and maybe your boss accept this proposal.
I hope that your boss accept this proposal , if you have any question you can write me.
    Sincerely,
    Heidy Escobar

  12. Hello dear mario ,

I'm writting you this letter to give you an advice , to let you know what i think about your situation, well i'm totally disagree with the one who have closed the door 'cause as you know your factory is supossed to have a good safety program so they shouldn't, in fact they must not have this door closed.

Because if there is an accident like a natural disaster or one made by one of your partners you have one exit left to go for and it will be a disadvantage for all of the workers inside the building, 'cause they even could get injured or something worst.
And it's a problem for the rescuers and firefighters too, 'cause they wont have where to get inside.

So as a solution i propouse you to tell to the director or another higher authority the disavantages about having the door blocked, so they do something about it, but if they don't do anything you should go to a police station and talk to someone who can handle it.

Well now i have to say goodbye and remenber that you can make the difference.
    Hope your problem get solve.

  13. Hello Mario!

I am writing to recommend about of situation of factory.
Good job to give them the safety aspects but the trouble is that not taking into practice at work.

I disagree That the emergency exits are blocked.
I think You should make a meeting among your coworkers and see the pros, then tell your boss that this rule applies, Because in case of any accident or danger in the production in the factory, staff would have to leave immediately.

It would be very safe to keep open emergency exits.

I hope You have served my recommendation.

    Sincerely,
    Danner Alverca

  15. Dear Mario

I think the doors should never be blocked or closed. Because the doors should not be an obstacle to an emergency.

I think it should be checked from time to time the doors to find no problem in future emergencies
    and not lose your life

I think the door should only be opened from the inside to prevent the closure or avoid problems

    Sincerely
    Frank Flores Peña

  16. Dear mario,

I'm writting you this letter to give you some advices, to let you know what i think about your situation. Well i' think that the close never be closed, because in an emergency many people could die.

One of my advices is that you would talk to the plant manager for this problem, because he can resolved the problem easily.

If my first advice doesn't work, you shoul do my second advice. My second advice is to ask for who close the door and tell him/her that don't do it any more and emplain the reasons becouse you are telling that for that person.

Well Mario i have to say goodbaye becouse if have classes at Cen. i hope my advices help you.

    Sincerely:

  18. Dear Mario,

I hope you are having a good time, I want to give you some advice about this situation.

If you are afraid of how can your boss react about you telling what to do about the safety rules, and the safety trainig that is supposed to be working good on the company, you shouldn't, it's very unsafety to work in a place where the exit door is lock. You should talk to your boss and tell him what is happening.
I hope you do the best for the company and your workmates.
    Take care.

    Sincerly, your friend,

    Solange Muñiz

  19. I think this should not be. This seems, at best, a lack of follow-through within management. Work safety is important to productivity, as it entails the well-being of human resource which will bring productivity into being. We ought to watch out for this, since sound safety policy is basis for ISA certification.
