Women's Movement

Women began this movement back in the 60s since they felt society had neglected them for a long time; a very controversial issue for the era. Do you agree with all their requests? Do you think they have successfully reached their goals or do you think there is still gender-based discrimination?

  1. Yes, I agree with their request because the women’s movement has promoted the gender equality in all areas (social, political and economic), they wanted a place in the society and eliminate the discrimination and the harassment that occurred in the workplaces, schools and in other sectors of the society.

Nowadays, Ninety-seven percent of the countries have approved laws against gender intimidation. Furthermore, women have the rights to vote, to hold public office, to work, to birth control, to be free from rape, to fair wages, to education, to serve in the military, to enter into legal contracts and to have marital or parental rights.

So, I think women have reached their goals and they show to the society that all women are strong, powerful and self-sufficient and we could have the same rights as men.

  2. I´m not a woman but I have to say that I agree with their request because all people deserve the same rights no matter whether they are men or women, the only thing that the wanted, was have the same rights that the men had, so for that they started the movement until they got what want

In the present, not all the countries have the same rights for men and women, and even in the countries that have the same rights, there are people that continues with the discrimination, so for that there are women that continues the fight against this discrimination in the society

The women have won the respect of most men for all of what they have done

  3. People make movements because they already got tired of injustices, Women decided to make their movement because they wanted to stop all the aggressions that they had to receive in those time.
We as humans deserve respect,No matter what is our gender, And that was what women were looking for, Respect, They wanted to have the same rights as men,They wanted to stop harassment, to be professional, they wanted to take place in the society not only as housewives,We are strongs and we can do the same as them Women were looking for equality.

I agree with all request except one, The freedom of abortion, God is the only one that give life and Just him can take it away, a Person cannot kill a human and less a baby that is not blame for anything.
I think that we reached our goals and finally got the rights that we need, But even now in this century we still suffer some gender- discrimination, In Low levels that in the future will reduce more till it finish.

    1. My point of view is the same with you Hederlyn " I agree with all resquest except one, The freedom of abortion".
We know that the Women's Movement worked to eliminate the discrimination in all sectors of society like in the workplace, the justice system, schools etc..
Perhaps we have heard somewhere the little phrase "My body, My choice". IN THE early 1970s, the women's movement demanded that abortion be legalized and they used that phrase to defend the "Abortion as Every woman's right" . but a fetus is a human being in front of eyes of God and that abortion is murdering a human being.

      God owns our life!!

    2. I agree with your comment Genesis, it's true that women fought for many things, to have their right just as men, because they weren't treated as truly americans, and their arguments were right, but in my opinion, the right of free abortion is not something good to fight for, It's true that everyone decides in their own bodies, but the fact is that aborting is killing an innocent being and at the eyes of God that's sin, I know not everybody is religious but Killing their own baby just because they weren't responsible enough at the hour of making things they shouldn't do at that early age is not fair.

The phrase "My body, My choice" is realated with abortion as well, so teenagers must be more conscious in the hour of taking some desicions that could make them get pregnant to prevent themselves to abort.

    3. I agree with your comment. It is truth that Induced abortions have aroused debate, controversy and activism because it is related to ethical, moral, philosophical, biological and legal issue. This is a personal topic because it touches on a person's value system. Some pro-life groups have taken their case to the extremes and have targeted doctors and facilities that provide abortions with various types of violence, from murder to arson.

  4. I agree with the statement, the facts and decisions that had taken the women's movement. At the beginning they fought to acquire the vote right, so they achieved it but even though there were discriminated through the fake that they just have to be in their home taking care of their children. So for it, the women became more independent in jobs that ensure a support for them but in spite of that they want more so they continued searching higher positions.
Nowadays the discrimination continues to existing for women but not at all such as 30 years ago. In conclusion, I think that all the people are equal and had the same capabilities to get a better life and so for all their fights the women are admirable

  5. I think that was a real courage that women will rise from the oppression they had, in a world where men ruled only because they believed that women should only serve the home and children. Thanks to the movement that started in the 60s now women can do the same things that men so I think it reached its goal. I think that in these times there may still be a bit of discrimination but is in every woman enforce their rights and progressing further.

  6. I agree with this statement because women had reached what they always wanted; freedom and the right to vote, but nowadays there is some discrimination in many places for example many women cannot do the same work as the men do, even though, we are capacable of working in what we want or when some people prefer to trust on a woman than a men because we are more tolerant and quiet. I think that the rebellion of women were a huge impact and the world has changed little by little.

    1. I agree with your comment because I think that God made us equal and capable to do the same as men, I think that some people trust more in us because we are more organized and sometimes we show more security than them also we have more patience,This rebellion made us the free and equal gender that changed the lives of a lot of women.

    2. I agree with the statements given by my classmates. The women succes have been developing little by little as main aim the right to vote, right to vote, right to be in a high position, right to be respected without sexual harashment in their jobs. Nowadays the women had gained the respect of the men because of their capabilities and what they have to do and deal since their daily life.

  7. Women’s Movement started in late 1910 with Alice Paul and the 19th Amendment of the Constitution where women of that time were looking for the same right of voting, and that’s what the amendment did.
There are some aspects I agree with women’s movement of 1960. For example, they wanted equality in education, in their jobs because they had the same skills than a man but still being threaded like they were less. A small amount of women were working and their payment was less than a man.
The only thing I don’t agree with is abortion. It’s true that many suffered harassment that could’ve end on rape or didn’t want more babies on his family but you can’t take a life away a pretend like nothing happens. Abortion means removing a little human being that has a part of you, and you can’t just kill someone that is like you.

  8. I agree with the requests that the women’s movement had. Before 60s women could not take their own decisions, they wanted respect, dignity but people around them though that they did not deserve it. We lived in a world where consider a woman less than a man was right and that was absolutely terrible. Men are stronger than women but mentally they are equal. In the 60s women opened their eyes and fought for what they wanted, they made people listened to them and changed the world. It was not easy, they were underestimated and insulted but nowadays we can see the benefits of that struggle. Women are everywhere, having the work of their dreams, deciding if they want to marry or adopt a child and form a family. I believe Women’s movement has successfully reached their goals but it is true that there is still gender-based discrimination. That is something we are still working for.

  9. Yes, I agree with their request because they were mistreated and discriminated by the society in that time. They were not seen as citizens, they were seen as an object that only had the ability to care their babies and for the housework. For that reason, the Women's Movement courageously fought against the violence, discrimination and harassment in order to bring about equality for all women.

All people deserve the same rights, the sex or gender does not define or limit our capabilities and abilities. Nowadays we know that in some cases and in some countries the women experience different forms of discrimination that limit their rights and freedoms , so it's a struggle that all people must continue fighting.

  10. Yes, I agree with this movement, because it was an important point in the history not only in USA , in all of th world. Nowadays, women can go to the university, work, they have the same rights. Therefore, tehe society was imporving and every day, we get more helping and new ideas from amazing women, That's a really important point. Women's movement against the violence, discrimination and harassment in order to bring about equality for all women.
I am not a woman, but I think they are valuable to the factories, and for any job. Women are the most perfect creation.

  11. I agree with the women movements around the world, they needed to feel important not only like the mother and wife in the family, also women felt the need to be important in the society. Women wanted to feel that their opinions were important like a citizen too, and obviously with all actions that women took had the opportunity to be Heard. They wanted to vote, they voted.
I dont think that there are discrimination against woman activities in the society. Nowadays I think that woman have the same possibilities than men. It depends on the desire to succeed anyway. If a woman would want a great job with a good salary, she would study very hard in order to have a profession and obviously to achieve the dreamed goal. May be the same dreams that men have. So I don't believe that in this days there are discrimination because all people have the same opportunities like a citizen and in personal life too. I have seen all type the professions that women had decided to get, the same ones that a man have had in history.

  12. I agree with this movement. It made women feel human beings, It gave us the freedom to be "people with feelings, but especially with rights". Not having the same force like a man doesn't mean that we cannot develop hard jobs. That movement was the clue for not allowing women to be despised by society .
God created both, women and men, with the same skills, with the same abilities and nobody can tell us the opposite. Women needed to be heard, they needed to feel that their ideas were as important as men's ideas.

  13. I think that the movement had good reasons; all that they wanted was fair. Not only the right to vote or the same employment opportunity or abolish the discrimination. The woman is a strong person you can observe not only in the past. Actually, the women are determined, excellent worker and independent person. This movement not only helped to provide women’s opportunities. It was the beginning for the society grew.

  14. The Movement of Women was in 1960s. The Equal Rights Amendment was written by Alice Paul. They were looking for not only the right of voting but also place in society. Women just wanted to eliminate some problems like discrimination, harassment in the workplace, schools and in other sectors of society. I do not feel that abortion is a great idea that a woman can choose. Because that means that you take away the right of living to someone who does not have the fault.
I agree because women also had the ability to work, to study, to overcome every day like men. Nowadays a lot of women had different types of work that they got with effort.

  15. I agree completely with the post, When men were taking to fight in war, women were left alone with their children and they had to focus on a way to progress by themselves, so this is a little start of the movement, they realised how important was to work by themselves while they were alone. think that at that time women had been through a lot of problems, such as discrimination in all areas, they couldn't work, study, and at the beggining they did not even had the right to vote. So this is what they were fighting for, so they could live free as American citizens and have the same rights as men and also to be treated equal as men, because not just because they were women mean that they were not strong enough to do something that is consider just for men. Women are capable of many things and this movement is just a example of how strong women are and how strong those women who fought againts sexual descrimination were.

  16. I agree with the requests that the women’s movement had. Because the feminist movement has fulfilled it is objectives. Women are now judged on their merit. Women have attained many important positions in our society. We see women in all levels of business, politics and the entertainment industry. Woman have had successes that the first feminists could only dream about. We've had woman nominated to run for Vice President or President.
For example: We have women surgeons, doctors, hospital administrators, astronauts, pilots and helicopter pilots. We also have women who are professors, instructors and even Presidents at universities all across the Country. We also see women (and men) who do not enter the workplace and stay home to raise their children. Both women and men have the freedom to work or not, and to be as successful as they can be.

  17. The women movement was a serie of campaings of equality of rights for all people , beacuse the women were suffering domestic violence, sexual harassment, sexual violence, maternity leave.
Yes I agree because this movement promotes the equality of the right to eveybody, also it promotes political, economic, educational, things , they only want a place in the society.
I think , they women reached their goals because nowadays in almost all countries the women can work in whatever activity that they want

  18. I agree with that women should have the same rights as men and this movement got changes in that time. Now all women can access jobs that were previously only men but still in some countries including Ecuador there are macho men that discriminate against women by treating them badly or as sex objects. I don´t agree with abortion because God is a life that is being removed but I think each person should act responsibly and seriously to bring a child into the world.

  19. I think that back in the 60a was already time to change the world's history from a different perspective. The women were really strong putting up all the men discrimination directly or inderectly so they actually deserved all what they requested because they fought for it but event though nowadays there is still the gender based discrimination hiding in some real life situations such as sports, work, etc; not because it's prohibited to them but it is not accostumed to see a women in this kind of things and that make the people critized the ability of the women in what they do or what they are capable to do.
The world needs to change. We are all equal and we deserve the respect at what we (women) do. Not because we have skirts means that we can't do military service or play soccer. We are gifted with something that we are good at and if that means do a 'men thing' it doesn't matter, women are willing to do that kind of things, because we are the strong gender and we can do anything.
